Iconography 5

"The Madonna del Granduca," was painted by Raphael around the year 1505.  Painting during the Italian Renaissance, Raphael commonly depicted The Madonna in many of his works.  This piece is said to have served as a "classical" view of  the Madonna in its simplicity and overall standard of perfection.  Shown here, she is holding Christ as a baby in such a pose that depicts comfortability between the two figures, which is one of the reasons the piece works so well.
